R_APE REGAL APE
the connotations, motivations and after-effects of colonisation into question. An abbreviation of Regal Ape, the artists use this context to explore what drives mankind to lose empathy for our fellow species, blinded by the allure of dominance and greed.
Innate human arrogance has turned entire cultures into products, men into slaves and peers into tools, and has caused the rise and fall of every empire in human history. Once a superiority complex is developed and the gap between the upper and lower echelons of society emerges, room is created for ignorance, intolerance and thus subjugation to thrive, as the disconnect makes it even harder for those with such a complex to find ever-needed empathy.
